Parish receives major donation from new charity
Parish Priest of Corpus Christi, Fr Mervyn Tower, was delighted to receive a cheque for Parish Funds drawn to the value £400 by members of the new charity, Grace Charity UK.  The cheque was presented by its Chairman, Mr Paul Antony, at a ceremony held in the Church on Monday evening, 30 September.
Grace Charity UK is a group of like-minded people who like to bring light into the lives of people in genuine need; they believe that caring is sharing.
Among their activities, the group arranged a wonderful curry night held in Corpus Christi Parish Hall earlier in the summer.  Expertly cooked by members of the new charity, parishioners were able to enjoy authentic curries with wonderful aromas, for the bargain price of £10.  Parishioner John Guy said that it was one of the best curries he had ever tasted, despite having visited the Indian sub-continent on a number of occasions.  He said, “I hope that we will have another curry evening before too long!”
Secretary to the group, Princy Thomas, said, “Fr Mervyn has been a great support to us all and as the Church plays such an important role in our lives, we thought it was right to donate our funds to the Parish.”
Fr Mervyn spoke to the assembled group of charity members and parishioners.  He said, “Your enthusiastic participation in the life of the Parish, and your contribution to the wider community of Oxford, are an inspiration to me.  Thank you for all that you do, so selflessly, for so many other people, especially those in need.”
In addition, Grace Charity UK was also able to donate a similar sum to the John Radcliffe Hospital Heart Unit, another very significant charitable organisation where many members of the group are dedicated employees.
